A Christmas Wedding at Maidens Barn with Elizabeth + Dan

We had the great pleasure of capturing the wonderful Wedding of Elizabeth and Dan at the lovely venue Maidens Barn just a week before Christmas.

Elizabeth, her bridesmaids and members of her family spent the previous night at the beautiful house and setting of Six Apples Cottage in Wethersfield, and had full use of the cottage to prepare for the big day on the morning of the wedding. Breakfast included mince pies and pancakes together with a few glasses of bubbly.  Elizabeth got ready upstairs with her bridesmaids, and one of them noticed a butterfly sitting on Elizabeth's dress before she put it on, which we decided was definitely a good luck sign. The short journey to Maidens Barn was made in a white taxi to meet up with the rest of the wedding guests and of course Dan, who along with his best man had been greeting their guests as they arrived.

The ceremony took place in the Oak Barn, a relatively new addition to the venue, with music on the piano being provided by Piano DJ.

The ceremony was followed by drinks and canapes in the courtyard as the weather was being very kind and quite mild for this time of the year, with the white taxi coming into the courtyard for some photos of the couple before capturing some lovely outdoor shots of their families and guests. Elizabeth and Dan are such a fun couple and helped us to capture some great shots of themselves in this awesome venue.

The time had arrived to head inside for a wonderful wedding breakfast followed by some hilarious speeches, much to the pleasure of all.

As the evening drew in we went outside to create some fun sparkler shots followed by the cake cutting and first dance. James from Piano DJ provided the music for the night entertainment and had everyone up and dancing. Elizabeth and Dan added our photobooth option to their package, which proved to be a laugh with their guests - even their Grandad came in for a fab photo. All too soon it was home time for us as we left the wedding party to celebrate into the night.

Thanks so much Elizabeth and Dan for having us as your photographers, we loved every minute sharing your special day.  Here are just a few of our favourites.

An Essex Wedding with a hint of Country and Western | Emma + Rich

When Emma and Rich first told us about their plans for their wedding we were so excited!  They were planning a cowboy/country and western themed wedding were planning to make and create the whole venue and details themselves. They had a vision for their wedding and they certainly pulled it out of the bag.  Their wedding was amazing.

Their engagement shoot was so much fun and gave us a taste of what was to come with their wedding - including cowboy hats (click here to see their engagement shoot).

On the morning of the wedding everything was set up at Orsett Showground with bell tents, marquees and a mini village created by Rich, Emma and their friends and family.  From an outdoor bar complete with optics, outdoor games, a skittle alley, fun photo booth, colouring area for the kids and much much more, the ''village '' was looking amazing.  All that was needed now were the guests to fill it.

The outdoor Ceremony area looked fabulous, with hay bales for seats, a decorated archway and cowboy boots and flowers putting the finishing touches to it. The weather was looking a bit overcast but we were all hoping the rain held off - at least until the ceremony was  over.

Most of Emma and Rich's guests arrived at the showground early to set up their own tents, and some had camped there the night before. People began to emerge from their tents in different forms of ''wild west'' attire clutching bottles of Bourbon and Whisky, the party was starting early !! Dogs in hats, scarves and tutu's, kids with cowboy hats and boots, and yes, people on stilts, they had it all !! We even dressed as cowboys to join in the fun and blend in with the guests!

The weather was still being kind as Emma arrived on the back of a Chevrolet Truck complete with a hay bale seat.  Her beautiful bridesmaids all dressed up in cowgirl suits, and pageboys in cowboy outfits arrived first in the truck, and were waiting for Emma when she arrived.  Everyone, including the bride was wearing cowboy boots. Richard, his best man and ushers, stood waiting at the arch dressed in matching cowboy attire, complete with Stetsons, as Emma was greeted by the stilt people and made her way to Rich.

The ceremony was very personalised and held by Katie Deverell - a wonderful celebrant. The ceremony also included some lovely readings and a dinosaur love story (together with illustrated storybook) which had the guests in fits of laughter.  The bride and groom then signed  Declaration of No Longer Independents before jumping the broom. Everyone then made their way across to the village to carry on with the celebrations.

The Wedding Breakfast marquee looked amazing with all the decorations and details. Emma's mum had made personalised chair backs for all guests, and their very unique wedding cake had been made by Emma's aunt from Kitty and Elsie Boutique Bakery.  All the guests were treated to a BBQ, accompanied by Emma and Rich's personalised Bacons Sauces, with homemade desserts served in little jars with handmade labels.  One the speeches were finished everyone headed to the other tent where The Henry Brothers had set up to entertain everyone.  The tent was filled with a dresser full of sweets and tables filled with a whole variety of yummy cakes.

Into the evening with a fire pit burning outside, and all the village lit up with fairy lights, a second band - Hey Day - set up to play in the main tent.  Rich's son Jake sang and played guitar for Emma and Rich's first dance which was a very special moment, and then all the guests jumped onto the dance floor to join in.  Into the evening the handmade photobooth area, which was made to look like a vintage country bedroom, was put to good use.

Thank you so much Emma and Rich for allowing us to be a part of this truly amazing day, we loved dressing up and being a part of it, and have some wonderful memories to cherish. We hope you all enjoy looking at the pictures as much as we enjoyed taking them.
